Unlocking the Power of Grid Modernization

In this article, I explore how data and technology are unlocking the full potential of grid modernization. I focus on the shift utilities must make from siloed operations to fully integrated, data-driven systems and why situational awareness, coordinated planning, and operational alignment are essential to building a reliable, resilient, and future-ready grid.

I walk through how utilities can bridge generation, transmission, distribution, and customer engagement by investing in cloud infrastructure, advanced analytics, and integrated system planning. By unlocking the value of existing assets through a phased crawl–walk–run approach, utilities can make smarter capital decisions, improve real-time operations, and scale distributed innovations. I also highlight AEIC’s role in convening utility leaders to align strategy, operations, and data ensuring grid modernization delivers measurable outcomes today while preparing the system for tomorrow’s challenges.
